Connect 5 port hub to Cable/DSL router?

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 cable/dsl router that I have been using to share Internet between 3 computers for over a year.

Recently I bought a Linksys EFAHO5W 10/100 5 port workgroup hub.

I connected the hub to the router using a numbered port on the router (not port one, that remains unused) and the uplink port on the hub. The cable is CAT5, about 40 feet long, is straight through, and has been tested good by successful use in another configuration. The hub lights up showing a link with port 5 (which is the shared port with the uplink port).

I then hooked a CAT5 cable from a numbered port on the hub to a verified working network card in one of my computers. When I access a site on Internet Explorer 5.5 with that computer the network card flashes green but the hub port lights do not.

Bottom line no Internet or connection to my network can be seen by the rig.

I unplugged and powered everything down and started back up, but that did not work. I noticed a reset button on the router but did not use it. I also did not change any configuration in the web based setup program.

The Linksys manual or website was not helpful.

Thanks for the help!!

:)

After proof reading my post, I realized I had not tested the cable from the hub to the rig. That cable was one I had just built, and was bad.

As usual it was the most obvious thing that needed repair.

Thanks.
