Im buying a graphics card for a friend. I was looking at getting him the Sapphire 9600pro as it seems to be the best bang for buck at the moment. *buying in the UK not US*

Now my question is. I allready have a succesfully softmodded Connect 3D 9500np in my current system that happily clocks over 9700pro speeds. But obviously on hacked drivers. Ive not encountered any checkerboard effects with the numerous games i play so far and am very happy with it to date.

My question is would it be worthwile swapping my card for the 9600pro or should i just stick with my softmod.

Also the Powercolour 9600pro is slightly cheaper than the Sapphire. Is there any reason i should get the Sapphire over the Powercolour version...

Thanks in advance for your input

I'd say stick with the softmodded card, and give your friend the 9600 Pro. Sapphire makes most of the ATI cards, so just check the VPU\memory speeds to make sure they're the actual Pro speeds and you'll be fine with either.

I would suggest giving the 9500 mod a good test using 3Dmark 2003 and any DX9 demo games you can DL (if you already haven't), to be sure it won't have problems with DX9 software. If it still passes all tests, then without doubt, I would keep the 9500 mod., since it blows away the 9600 Pro. As for the 9600 Pro to buy, I would say Sapphire, Connect3D or Powercolor, whichever has the fastest memory for potential OCing. I think these are all partner companies of ATI, so quality will be assured.

Let me get this straight... you want to downgrade from a soft-modded 9700 PRO that runs PERFECTLY fine to, a 9600PRO?
