connect 2 computers to one FireWire hub?

This is probably a ridiculous question but I'll ask anyway.

Can I connect to 2 computers to a FireWire hub at the same time and have them both be able to access all the devices connected to that hub? I'm assuming it won't work, but I can't seem to find any information about it anywhere.

Basically, the reason I want to do that is so I can share 2 external harddrives between 2 computers without having to set up networking and file sharing. I do have a wireless network set up using a wireless router to share an internet connection, but everything's I've read says that I shouldn't set up a file sharing network between these computers because it wouldn't be very secure. I guess the better way is to set up a gateway using another computer but I'm not really sure what that involves.

So, assuming that the answer to my first question is no, does anyone have suggestions for how I can share these drives?
