I'd have to say he would raise the intelligence level of congress.

Make of that what you will.

Heh, I'd much rather have our Moonbeam in office in theory. While he rubs people in the wrong way I have no doubt that he is sincere in his wish for good. I don't agree with everything he says, and I hope the reverse is true. The world isn't a better place for universal conformity.

That said I would not wish a political office on him. What an albatross around the neck.

Getting back to the topic- it's been established that some meditative routine is beneficial to clarity of mind. Along those lines it has also been demonstrated that a siesta, which a majority of cultures have, promotes good health and function.

We're a perverse society who is more enslaved to the clock than just about any other even though the science demonstrates that taking time out for a catnap mid day increases productivity. If you are lucky enough to have a 9 to 5 job and get a half hour snooze (too much backfires) you will get more done. That's how we're hardwired.

Something else- weight gain, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, well just about all the modern chronic illnesses and disorders including obesity, are strongly promoted by sleep deficits and disturbances in sleep cycle. I should not be the least surprised that it is our culture of disdain for proper and timely rest is what's largely responsible for a great many of our ills.

i was going to say something snarky about mexico, but instead i'll say this. you might be right when the "nap" is used by a society whose culture possess a strong work ethic. otherwise, not so much.

Just a half hour? ;)

One of the best ways to treat adults like adults... it to let them act like children.

That's why at the best jobs (usually in creative industries) you'll see toys, nerf guns, video games, people taking naps or puttering around on scooters, etc...

Buuut... row's also right that it only works when the work ethic is there. Dipshits don't last long -or are ever hired in the first place- at creative companies I've worked at, for example. They can do the play and behave-like-a-child parts okay, but don't quite get the work and productivity and behave-like-an-adult parts.

It's tough being a congressmen in a swing state. The congressmen in the solid red/blue states have it easy. :(
