Because Liz Carter is white, she’s banned from debating Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson and the other black candidates running for his Georgia congressional seat at a candidate forum in Atlanta tonight.

The forum, moderated by Newsmakers Live, is solely for the black Republicans and Democrats running for Johnson’s 4th Congressional District seat, Carter took to the Internet to say.

Our world has gone totally bizarro. Restricting a debate based on race is apparently okay, but tax cuts based on income or enforcement of immigration laws is racist? Where's the NAACP and the ACLU? (I know, I know, first row on the far left.)

UPDATE: Okay, I was finally able to talk with Cheryl. Newsmakers finally allowed Liz Carter to participate. Get this, Newsmaker’s compromise was to allow Liz to attend and speak, but from the AUDIENCE. That’s right, just like the blacks in the cheap seats in To Kill A Mockingbird.
Connie Stokes, a black democrat, stood in solidarity with Liz. She said that if Liz had to sit in the audience so would she! (Standing Ovation for Connie Stokes, who apparently has a calendar!)
Cory Ruth, Liz Carter’s black republican challenger, had no problem with the exclusion of Carter. That is NOT A CONSERVATIVE, friends. With this action alone I could never endorse Cory Ruth. He is dead to me, as he should be to any thinking human being.
Newsmakers finally capitulated and Liz Carter was allowed on stage.

Since the question is not directly answered, I ask has Carter gotten the required number of registered voters endorsing her candidacy to qualify for the right to debate with other candidates who may have previously jumped through the proper hoops under what ever rules exist from the powers that be?

Frankly I do not know one way of the other, but its time to raise the question before going off half cocked and concluding its only based on bigotry.

It is a private debate sponsored by a self-described black media organization, it's not an issue of the legitimacy of her being a candidate it's that the event moderator specifically said she could not participate in the debate because she was white. I'm not sure I see where it's jumping to conclusions to say that the decision was based on bigotry, I think that's a very level headed conclusion to come to.

If this is a private debate, then I don't see the problem. They should be able to invite and not invite who they want.

I absolutely agree, but if your motives for who you invite is based solely on skin color then they should expect to be called out on it. Being a private organization doesn't exclude them from criticism and ridicule.
