It obliterates the Mass Transit Account that has existed for 30 years by delinking it from the Highway Trust Fund and redirecting fuel tax revenues; fails to give local transit systems flexibility in how they spend their money during economic downturns; contains privatization give-aways to foreign corporations that want to take over local public transit operations; fires 2,000 Amtrak food service workers; slashes $308 million from Amtrak operating funds; eliminates safety and health protections for workers handling hazardous materials; delays for a decade or longer mandatory implementation of life-saving railroad collision avoidance technology; forces outsourcing of state DOT engineering jobs, and it even funds part of the program at the expense of federal workers' pensions. Yes, this bill is that bad.

Anyone up to date on Senate billl HR7? if this thing passes, expect to see a lot of toll roads coming to all 50 states. the privatization of our public roads will make travel much more expensive. why isn't this being discussed in the media? :colbert:

Because this is a 100% free market principle : Not thinking it over, not providing legislation companies must follow. Not thinking about inefficiencies caused by a massive increase of administrative handling. Not thinking about how to much middlemen who also want a profit increase costs.

Free market principle & Rand delusions : Just assuming it will straighten itself out over the backs of the always paying and working citizens...

This isn't true privatization. True privatization would be if Congress auctioned them off and if government no longer had anything to do with them.

They're just blowing away another chance to pay off the federal debt.

Did you read it? It said it was going to redirect the fuel tax. If the corporations are funded via taxes, then how the hell is it a "100% free market principle"?

It's really not anymore free market than the "privatizing" prisons or Bush's proposal for Social Security.

Well, yeh, of course. It's about directing tax revenue cashflow to "the right people", Repub cronies & contributors.

Your quote says, and I quote,
contains privatization give-aways to foreign corporations that want to take over local public transit operations
Local transit operations != interstate highways.

In Ohio, Republicans want to turn over the best highway in the state to private operation. The Ohio Turnpike is the best maintained roadway in the state, is serviced by superior and timely snow removal, has excellent service areas, essentially everything you might want in a highway. It is self funded through tolls and paid off its construction bonds years ago.

I can't imagine a private company motivated by profit doing a better job.
