How is this Congress's job? How do they have time for this?

I feel like there should be some authority heading to the offices of anybody involved and throwing them out on the street for extreme stupidity.

The NFL has some special Congressional exemptions, such as some pertaining to anti-trust rules.

It's a ridiculous notion to think they don't have time for this. Congress isn't a single person, who can only focus on one thing at a time. There are staffers, numerous committees, etc...

It's ridiculous to suggest they should spend their time on it, no matter how many people they have on staff.

Where's all the letters going to the rappers who drop the N word? Come on congress! Get writing!

Where are all the rappers that get special Congressional exemptions on their business?

Given that Obama has pretty much stated that he'll run the country by executive order, congress should now have plenty of time to waste on stupid PC issues like this.

Given the fact that the name of Oklahoma means ‘Red People’ in Choctaw, this request is a little ironic.

Is it going to create more jobs? If yes, then worry about it. If no, deal with it later

This is painful.

You can't find work since 2008? Shut your pie hole and let me discuss the Redskins "issue".

Very much this. "Why are they wasting their time?" was the same outraged line thrown about during the MLB steroid investigations. Professional sports teams receive various generous antitrust exemptions from Congress. One of the biggest side effects of these exemptions allows them to fleece taxpayers for billions of dollars. The NFL headquarters is a "nonprofit" because of its charitable exemption. Does anyone believe that the NFL is really a nonprofit entity? Of course not, but its a way for billionaire owners to line their pockets at taxpayer expense. The antitrust exemption also allows owners like the Marlins' Jeffrey Loria to bilk taxpayers out of hundreds of millions of dollars for stadiums, then keep all of the profit.

So long as the public allows the leagues these privileges the public should be all up in the leagues' business.

We're from the government, and we're here to help :D

Yes, I'm sure congress has no more pressing matters to attend to than to try and enforce stupid political correctness rules.

A little more ironic the NFL commish who doesn't have a problem with the team name beloved patriot would not call a Native American a beloved patriot.

well, native americans do come in all colors so it would be silly to call a white or brown man who was born in america a "beloved patriot"...
they should just rename the team to the Washington Oklahoma's since apparently it's not an offensive term in the native tongue.

If they are breaking laws, etc. yes then get up in their business.

Over a name? No.

The Washington Reds. There. We can all move on with our lives now.

But then they'll be confused with the Cincinnati baseball team! D:

OK, OK, I think it would be fine if the Washington Reds also adopt a more hilarious version of the Cleveland Indians logo.

We already have two 'Giants' teams, why not two 'Reds' teams?

I know. I mention it because it was part of the earlier discussions about it--I think it was some NFL yahoos actually argued that adopting the same name as a baseball team would cause "brand confusion."

this is stupid, obviously.

What's wrong with Redskins? I thought it was just people who choose not to use sunscreen.

Just change the name to Redskien. They can thread their way up field with their red hot first string.
