Is there a reasoning cited for this? Has the volume of reporters increased causing access issues? What has been the stated reason for this new policy?

These bozos can't answer questions posed to them with a straight face and want to do everything behind closed doors and without scrutiny.

The response to this will be that the media is "fake news" and dishonest. Many among Repub base are willing to carry water for their masters so they will not care.

No stated reason that i've seen. The practicality of this seems questionable since everybody has a smartphone in their pocket. Also every congressperson appearing on TV will surely be grilled about this decision ("What are you trying to hide?"), most uncomfortably.

Perhaps because once nepotism has reached saturation point, journalists aren't keeping an eye on politicians any more, they're spying on FAMILIES :p
