I searched the forum and I did not see anything posted on this so here it is. Congress is looking to criminalize P2P networks complete with fines and jail time. :Q

P2P is by far the most important issue in our country right now.

The industries also are pushing to portray P2P networks as dens of terrorists, child pornographers and criminals -- a strategy that would make it more palatable for politicians to pass laws against products that are very popular with their constituents.
Oh for christs sake, that's all we need is more propaganda :|

Probably just fear-mongering. I doubt there will be anything to come from it.

Yeah, and then it passes. What then. People are way to passive about these things and then bitch and moan when it actually happens.

Not really aimed at you directly Skoorb.

🙂

Careful... you're on the edge of a slippery slope with that one.

Instead of just hoping, it has to be proactive...

We really need to make sure that NOTHING comes of it by writing our congress reps. Of if they vote for it, vote their @## out.

BTW...I used to like Orin Hatch but he needs to go, he is getting too looney.

I hope they do it so things like this go back to the way they used to be. I hate it when people who don't know how to start Windows Media Player can somehow download 50000 songs then they b!tch when their credit card get stolen because one of the songs had a virus.

LOL.....

That made me laugh. But this is still a serious matter. 😛

From the looks of the proposed bill, it seems that they're only going after people who are sharing over $10,000 worth of copyrighted material. So, if you're not sharing files OR if you're one of those rare people who uses Kazaa and eMule for legitimate purposes, you don't have anything to worry about.

LOL

we need to kill this.. P2P is a very interesting technolgoy with a lot of potential..

the problem isthat if we Ban P2P .. can we stop the US army from using it? I mean they already use P2P for battlefield maintanance.. can we stop P2P filesharing over a wired network at office..

Its still P2P.. right?

I think congress needs to go do something else.. and leave the the law making to ppl who know what they are doing.. oh yeah bush needs to get his head looked at.

Well, they are right in a way... Ever since they started doing crap like this I fully support any terrorist willing to target them.
