Congress looking at raising the Federal gas tax by 30%

Different methods proposed. One would be a flat 5.4 cent increase on the 18.4 we have now. Other methods would be 2 cents a year for so many years, etc.

I would suggest toll roads. That way the people who use the roads, pay for them. What could be more fair?

I would suggest toll roads

That is a good suggestion, that way the trucks could pay more and raise the cost of all our stuff.
I would suggest Toll streets or a milage tax where you pay a tax on how many miles you drive.

If they do the toll road thing it should be by size of vehicle then I would not have to pay more that a simi truck because he gets a "commercial rate" but does a lot more damage to the road than I do.

Flush meters on toilets, pay by the flush that way you could save money by only flushing once a week. My gawd I pay ove 1/2 of my income in taxis now, how much more can I pay. Now with a toll road you want me to pay to go to work. good thinking.

People don't like that because it would only work for the "rich". If you're poor, they are basically saying you can't drive as much. A "rich" person on the other hand would be barely affected.

Not that I agree with that.

How about we just cut back the grand plan to link every community of 15,000 or more to an interstate via a federally subsidized highway.

Just make the target at communities of 100,000 or more and the maintenance costs of the highway system plummet.

i think toll roads are too much overhead.

True dat. In MA we suffer from toll roads.

Have to pay for the tax cuts and the war somehow. I expect Bush to do just what the article suggests and severely underfund infrastructure maintenence. Ah well, who needs roads anyway.

Too fair to suit you Commies, eh? Spread the cost to the rich as usual. Guess that's what's known as "fair" to our resident Socialists.

Does it bother your Commie ass that "the rich" pay the same tax on gasoline that we all do? 😕
