I'm not arguing, but who exactly do we elect? The system is corrupt from the top to the bottom. Put in some new faces and the old guard will have them on the corruption train right out of the gate. The deck is stacked against us. We're down to two choices. The status quo or overthrow. We can't count on the corrupt people to un-corrupt themselves. To put it in a current day context, would you expect Eric Holder to investigate corruption at the DOJ with any meaningful results?

I worked for an enormous corporation for 30 years and early on I realized that the same people that got us in trouble were not the people we could rely on to get us out of trouble. The mindset does not change.

It's been a truism for years: people hate congress but love their congressperson. Why? Cuz they bring home the bacon, all that juicy federal pork. The electorate has become apathetic and lazy. Sadly, we're reaping the government that we've sewn.

I'd like the approval ratings overlaid with wealth inequality through the last 30 years.

Cantor's sorry ass was voted out, perhaps voters can keep getting it and Rangel can save the day and be the next asshole to get tossed out.

"In a Gallup poll released yesterday just 7% of Americans reported having “a great deal” or “quite a lot of” confidence in Congress. That’s exactly the same percentage of people who told Gallup they have no confidence in Congress whatsoever and that wasn’t even an option given in the question."

Actually I can't believe how much confidence the people do have in congress.
That 7% are just people who are highly confident of congress. That means there is a remaining and likely higher amount that is slightly confident in congress. The rest are just apethetic or don't know what congress is.

So, what? I should eject my moderate Democrat senators and replace them with Tea Party lunatics?

That's actually the problem on both sides, Dem and Repub.

So if you have a conservative leaning then you choose the lesser evil.

And if you have a liberal leaning then you choose the lesser evil from that perspective.

What we really need is a viable 3rd party that doesn't share 90% of its doctrine with one or the other of the two major parties, but rather merges ideas.

There are a lot of people out there that are pro labor union rights and also pro gun rights. Their main issue may be pro labor union rights so they vote that line, meanwhile contributing to the NRA even though they just helped elect someone who thinks it's their "mandate" to pass strict gun laws.

I could come up with all kinds of other examples. Are you pro gay marriage but against abortion? Against gun control but want less military and more social welfare spending? Think education should be a major priority, but also think the budget should be balanced? Well you're just screwed, no one represents you.

I have to think there is room for another party based on a platform that has broader appeal.

I used to be for term limits. The problem with term limits is that it does nothing for incentives. Companies will still lobby for their interests, and representatives will respond. Just because you have more people going in and out of the system does not change this issue.

You must make it less profitable for companies to lobby, and more profitable to compete.

Yeah, and how's that going to happen when the people benefiting from it are the ones who make the laws?

Approval ratings for Congress that are still in the positives?

Bullshit.
