woot woot! just got the email from southwest! now to pick places to go with my wife...
if you don't take advantage of credit card point bonus offers, i suggest you do. you can get a lot of free shit.
my buddy who also gets a lot of points told me that he had read that after this year (or possibly earlier, I don't remember) chase is no longer to let people get the bonuses after 2 years again. once you have done it, you will no longer be able to do it again ever.
what are other good cards to get? i need a new one to rack up bonuses with. already have the chase sapphire card.
was is a decently low companion pass offer?
most of the companion pass credit card deals require spending more than i spend in a single year to get the companion pass

Shhhh, quit spreading insider knowledge.
The only thing chase has recently done is implemented a 5/24 rule, which essentially means you can only open up to 5 new accounts within 24 months (2 Years). The sign on bonus amount of once every 2 years SHOULD remain the same.

there are 2 cards where you get 50k bonus points for spending $3k within like 2 or 3 months.
you need 110k points for the companion pass.
i started using one card january 1st and started using the other one as soon as i hit $3k on the first card. taking a vacation at the end of february, along with buying a new camera lens (on top of my normal spending/bills) made getting the $10k i had to spend pretty easy.
Boils down to this:
Apply for Southwest card -> Spend $3000 within the first 3 Months -> 50,000 miles
Apply for Southwest BUSINESS card -> Spend $3000 within the first 3 Months -> 50,000 miles
Based on your spending to get the sign-on bonus', you will also get points for those expenses.
The companion pass is 110,000 miles within 1 year.
The ideal scenario is actually to start building the first 50,000 sign up offer the year PRIOR, so around Dec of this year. That way, you get the 100,000 pts at the beginning of the next year (2017). Once you get the total of 110,000 miles you now have companion pass for the remainder of the year, AND the entire next year (2017 + 2018).
Unless they changed something really recently, it's $2,000 in 3 months, not $3,000 in 3 months.
Also, if you want to maximize your companion pass, apply for both cards (premier and business premier) like in November of the current year, and spend as close to $2,000 on each card as you can, then once January of the following year comes around, spend the remaining amount to put you over $2,000 for each card. That way you'll most likely hit your companion pass within the first quarter of that year, which you will get CP for all that year, plus all of the following year.
it might be $2k, don't remember lol.
with what you're saying, you will still need 10k points so either way you have to spend $10k more in that year. that's why i just waited until jan 1st to start spending on the card.
you also don't need the business card. i got a premiere and a plus. the plus 50k bonus point was only through referrals, but if you google you can find people who are willing to give you a referral.
True, you still need 10K more points, of which 4K will be from spending $2k per card, so only 6K left.
For some it's easy to get that 6K. I travel a decent amount for work so I can book all my travel expenses through my CC/southwest.
Also, right now, I don't think there are any plus cards that offer 50K points. At least I haven't seen one in over a year.
those 4k points won't be included in your 100k though since you spent them the previous year (if you get right up to 2k then spend the last few dollars in the new year). you have to earn all 110k points in the same calendar year.
as i said, the 50k bonus with plus is through a referral thing. quick google search will bring you to it. i applied for my card in late january.
What is a companion pass?
Always forget, when does the 2 years reset? From date of application, time bonus is received, date you cancel the card? Think I'm about due for another round with the regular personal SW card.
