It's still 5% off, which if added up on a big purchase can make quite the difference.

You pick up pennies don't you?

Whenever I have to buy something on Amazon.com/other online retailer, I always check eBay to see if there's a gift card/promo code around the price of my item that's being sold for less than face value. This one must have been the only one he could find.

After 5 years of saving pennies, I finally have enough money to buy a fancier toothbrush with a little bendy thing in the middle.

Bidder was probably looking to score a deal on a GC. They set their bid at a low price, people bidded the price up. As long as they had a maximum bid under $5, they come out ahead.

So do I, that's how I found it. The wait for the email with the code isn't worth the $.24, most people value their time more than that. $.24 isn't worth logging into your email or spending the time to pay the person on Ebay.

I guess he just has nothing to do.

Like I said, they were probably trying to get a deal. Looking at the winner's history, they bid on a bunch of Amazon.com GCs.

Doesn't take more than a half hour to search eBay for the GCs, place your bid, and wait till they all finish.

Looking at the history, they wound up paying $302 for $330 worth of GCs. Not a bad deal.

What about the person that posted it? Has a GC worth $5. 0.35 cents to list it, probably another 0.35 cents FVF, and 0.24 cents lost in FV. He only probably gets $4, less if the buyer paid via paypal. Not a good deal for the seller IMO

Typically GCs are sold for less than what they are worth. Sometimes much less...
