The reason I ask is I just recently downloaded a few songs with WINMX on dialup and since its allready so slow I have sharing disabled. I got some other stuff that I would like to download yet and I cant afford to take a chance with the RIAA. I plan on actualy buying the full album CD if I like what I download later on in a month or so because I'm straped for any cash right now.

If all you do is download wouldnt they just sue you for the cost of the cd's you downloaded? They wouldn't be losing millions of dollars of revenue from just you.. just the $20 they lost on you not buying the cd..
Its when people share that they lose money, if they lose any at all.. someone shares a song from a $20 cd, 100 people download that song, so thats $2000 right there.
Or at least that's how I see it.

I dunno about that. If I walked out of wal mart with a $20 CD, they'd sue me for more than the $20 i owe.

They only moderate Kazzaa, I believe. The other hundred of completely workable and functional P2P programs are golden for use. 😀

I agree with Kenazo... it's all legal up here in Canada 🙂

I heard their new policy was to go after P2P users with the handle 'mrwierdo'.

If you use BitTorrent, you'd BEST get PeerGuardian as well. Seriously, When I D/L something, I always see media companies, different divisions of the BSA, and MPAA attempting to connect. Luckily PeerGuardian blocks them.

Yup, torrents are now highly scrutinized.

I would only be paranoid about kazaa, and now I guess bittorrent. But as far as bittorrent goes, they would have to be actively searching for each torrent that they want to catch you on. And how many torrents are you on at once? I guess they could gather a list on you, but what if you have a dynamic IP... they can't really do much in the way of busting you big time on torrents.
When I was sharing about 200 movies, 600 tv shows, 4000 songs on kazaa, I got a letter from AT&T (att@home before the fall) telling me to stop sharing a cam of a movie that was just out in theaters. They mentioned nothing of my countless other shares.
Now I share all that crap minus the music all the time, and SBC hasn't said a word yet.
How many people have been busted? How many people trade? How likely are you to get busted? Not very.
Edit: Umm... yeah.
