Confusion about the TI4200

Alright... I am looking over the various choices for NVidia GPU's out there, and I see the hype being generated here about the Ti4200... This is a lower model# than the 4600, so why does everyone seem so happy aobut the release?

Sorry if it is a little n00b confusion, but I am building a new PC and was looking at either the Gainward 4400 or 4600 Golden Samples, and if the 4200 is better, I would like to know...

Thanks!

Can you OC this one to hit 4400 or gasp 4600 speeds?

If so, then I can see why a 4200 would be a sweet buy!

In current previews, the Ti4200 is shown to overclock somewhere between the Ti4400 and the Ti4600. It looks to be the best bang for the buck, and that is why there's so much hype behind it.

I have heard that the 4200 is lower priced because it uses the power supply technology from the GF3, meaning it runs hot and will use more power than the 4400 or 4600. I don't know for sure, as I've never even seen a 4200...

Only Ti4600 supports dual monitor?
Cannot configure dual monitor without Ti4600? or
why would it be better to use Ti4600 for dual monitor?

The GF4's are appearing to not be the great overclockers like the GF3's were. At stock, the Ti4200 comes in either the 64Meg flavor with 500Mhz ram, or the 128meg one with 444Mhz ram. These will overclock but don't expect to get too great of an increase. Don't get me wrong, they are a great deal for the cards(64meg for around $179 and 128meg for $199 retail) and they will outpace any card out except the Ti4400/4600.

I am about to get a GF4 soon, and I think I will go for the Ti4400, which isn't much more than the 4200 in price but it's clocked higher and will still go even more. I want it to last at least a year and half or longer.

Check Out this ti4200 Gainward review thanks to Game PC . They have it in-stock for 235.00 USD . If I can find one of these for 200 shipped I mayt have to jump on it. They overclocked it to 310 core 225 memory (550 DDR). I currently have a Radeon 7500 running at 330core / 310 memory (620 DDR!!!), and they are 4ns chips!!!

Actually when it was in stock at newegg.com, the 128mb version had a mem speed of 500mhz, but the core speed was 225mhz instead of 250

All GF4's support twinview, but only certain GF4MX's include dual head capability. All of the Ti series I have come across support dual heads.

The big deal is basically that it's 1/2 the price of the Ti4600 and only a little bit slower.

By the way, good choice on the Gainward. They rock. I've got the Golden Sample version of the Geforce3 Ti200. Does that Golden Sample run in Enhanced mode? If so, that means it's overclocked from the factory. This means you get more speed and still get your manufacturers warranty. So the Gainward 4200 might be as fast as the competitors 4400.

"Golden Sample" by Gainward's definition means that you can overclock it slightly using Gainward's overclocking software and it will remain underwarranty.

However, the review at gamepc showed that you can overclock this baby even higher to pretty much match the performance of the Ti4600 using riva tuner, which I plan to do when my Ti4200 arrives on Friday.

BTW, newegg has them listed again at $214(not in stock, auto-notify), I ordered mine from Atacom.com yesterday for $219 (make sure you get the golden sample, not the other version for 209).

Dont' expect to overclock the ti4200 to ti4600 speeds. Engineering samples oc way higher than finished products do. Hopefully you'll be able to hit pretty high

holy crap! Didn't notice that there. Sweet, I didn't know you get to keep your warranty as well if you use their enhanced mode. Definitely picking up the gainward card! Just need the $$$$...anybody wanna buy me one?
