I currently have XP2000+ with Samsung PC2700 and was planned on upgrading to Barton with a new motherboard.
My current Giga-Byte GA-7VRXP 1.1 won't support Barton core. Then I came across an article on motherboards.org indicating that Intel performs better when comes to multitaskings (their spec proves that). Does their test credible?
When I see this I want to get P4 instead of Barton. Unless someone a had difference experience to convince me. I know I have an XP2000+ but I have no experience on p4 so I cannot really compare the two.

If want to go with P4 setup:
can a PC2700 (DDR333) run well with Intel P4 (800FSB) or does it have to be PC3200 (DDR400)?
Will the performance decrease badly if I pair the pc2700 with the P4 (800fsb)?

You could run a 533 FSB P4 with that 2700...

Yes, the 800 mhz fsb needs PC 3200 / 200x4

Now if you think your Pc 2700 can run at 200 mhz then you might be in luck... You can also run different ratios so your ram is not running sync with you FSB...

133 x 4 = 533 FSB...

So you could get yourself a 2.4B and overclock.. ( i did with the retail heatsink and fan ) to 3ghz...

:D

And you could use your current memory..

Thanks! what motherboard do you use?

I was thinking of getting the 2.4 (800fsb w/HT). If this compatible with the PC2700 it would be great.
Do you think 2.4B is no difference than 2.4C, performance wise?

I'm going to avoid commenting on the P4 vs. Athlon XP question except to say that anything you can buy today for over $50 will run every office application and every other general usage application (IE, Netscape, AOL, AIM, Y! Messenger, WinAmp, Photoshop) with no trouble at all. Multi-tasking is nothing for applications like those... it's when you do something retarded like encode an entire 2 hour movie to divx while playing Unreal Tournament 2k3 that things actually start to slow down.

The 2.4B has a 533 FSB while the C has an 800...

Your PC 2700 runs @ 166 mhz.. The 2.4B runs on 133X4 so your memory will be alright...

The 2.4 C runs @ 200x4 to get 800 mhz FSB.. You would have to overclock your memory just to reach the defualt 2.4ghz.. = not good..

The Barton is faster than the 2.4B in most games tests that 've seen. However, P4s in general perform better for encoding movies and other multimedia apps like that. Only the C models (800mhz FSB) will be close to or better in gaming/office app performance than an equivalent XP. So, if you'd only be getting a B model (because you don't want to upgrade your RAM), I'd definetely get a new athlon XP. A 2500+ Barton and godd MB (NF7-S or some such thing) can be had for under $200.

Thanks! I think I go with Barton then since it works well with my current ram and cheaper than Intel platfrom.
Which board is better: NFS-7 or A7N8X Deluxe?
