You're so stupid I'm pretty much about to get sick to my stomach.

In order to have component, HDMI, or DVI outputs, you need a digital cable box capable of HDTV. I've had digital cable for ~5 years, yet I only got an HD box two years ago. My old digital cable box only had Coax and composite, and my HD box (which was $5 more a month) has DVI and component as well.

Digital cable is for the cable companies. They can push more through the same cable.

Exactly, it really has nothing to do with SQ at all. Like someone else said, it is often worse due to compression artifcats.

Eitherway, I believe the OP is mentally challenged.

hey dumb a$$ what is an artifcats. ?
anyway i do know what up mean...
but um my dvd/cd player has an optical out which i use... which is digital 0_o
but still.... you would expect more from "digital" cable

YOU ARE PROBABLY THE DUMBEST PERSON I'VE EVER TALKED TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. The cable box you have is a DIGITAL cable box, it is just not HDTV-ready. You just fvcking said that you don't have an HDTV, so what the fvck is the point of complaining that your box won't work with a digital TV? If you want S-Video that badly, go get a box from your cable company with it, but you won't notice a difference in quality anyways. You really need to end yourself, you fvcking moron.

My digital cable box has HDMI, component, digital SPDIF and coax outs. But I have the HD-DVR service. *shrug*

I'm guessing that since SD channels don't utilize high resolution or digital sound, regular Analog RCA/Coax/S-video and stereo RCA (with regular dolby surround on some shows) is fine for most people.

So unless you sign up for the fancy-schmancy service, with fancy-schmancy HD channels that take advantage of those fancy-schmancy features...why should they give you a more expensive box with all these fancy-schmancy things that you won't be able to use?
