If you want to save a few bucks, and you don't multitask heavily, a single-core A64 still runs plenty fast.

If you go with S939, you can always upgrade to a dual-core CPU later (when they are cheaper and more games actually use them).

Honestly, there are about 6000 threads on this topic, with exhaustive technical detail and arguments presented for both sides. I would happily give you some advice, but that would just start another one. I suggest you hit the search function and settle down for some reading.

If you're gaming and you have nothing else running in background, definatley go with single core. It'll be MUCH cheaper, and better in-game performance than a dual core counterpart. There's good deals on a A64 3500+, a freind of mine got it, the chip kicks ass. Or you can do what I did and get an Opteron ( i got the Opteron 144). And overclock it. Since you're a gamer, I suggest you spend more money on a better video card and stick with a single core cpu.

QFT... I'd say what I think but that would just start another discussion that I've had 15 times at minimum.

I say dual core because more and more games are starting to come out that take advantage of having dual cores. Also there is nothing wrong with burning/ripping two dvds at once, while running prime95 and playing WoW at the same time :)
