I am newbie, and I need/want a computer to game and do homework on, because my powerbook isn't cutting it anymore, and I need a PC for some applications, that I cannot run on my mac. I have been doing research off and on for the last couple of weeks, and the more I read the more confused I get by all the different specs. So I need some help.
I have a couple of questions, and any combo recomendations, (mobo, cpu, ram) would be greatly appreciated. My budget is around $1,000 USD. Thats just the hardware, excluding the monitor, input devices and windows xp. I don't plan to overclock, but do not want to be screwed if down the road I decide too.
Uses: Mainly for 3D modeling, (not too heavy stuff, mainly rhino), gaming, page layouts, and photo editing.
The people I have talked to said I should go with PCI-express, because it is replacing AGP. Also I should go with Abit or Asus. Also I would like to go with AMD instead of Intel. How can you tell if one part works with another? Matched components? I have been looking at the manufactor websites, and still am pretty confused.
Again any help with choosing the right components would be greatly appreicated.
