Confused: People running PC3500 on mobos w/ 400 max?

I somewhat understand that it has to do with OCing, but can someone explain why the motherboard specifies a max speed of 400 and yet people can still use 433? Are they just running their memory 433 speed at 400?

Precisely.

Of course you can always run your PC3500 at 433MHz DDR memory speed, but that would be running your motherboard out of its supported memory spec, as there isn't a single motherboard on the market that support higher than 400MHz DDR.

i was running my pc2100 at 173 fsb (i think my agoia is limiting me just slightly here) which is even over pc2700 spec
good quality ram will do that, run niiiice and faaaaast

This is totally out of my leaugue, but I'm also building a new computer and I was just wondering, you say that no motherboards can support faster than 400 Mhz DDR, but I know you can do dual channelon some...would that essentially be equivalent to 800 Mhz (400X2)?
