I have been reading webpages and forums for a couple days, and I think I am more confused than I was when I started.
Situation: I currently have a windows home server connected to a router. I have 6 computers connected wirelessly to the home server and creating backups everyday and holding them for 10 days. However, the home server does not work as I would like. I do not have room for a monitor and periphs, so the constant updates and stuff are killing me. Then, when I went to actually restore a computer, the computer could not find the server, even though they were both connected to the router through cat5.
What I want: A linux server, preferably ubuntu server or the like. I want the server to create images of the HD and store them. If a computer goes down, I want to be able to burn the image to a cd/dvd and install the system with that(or an easier way that works wirelessly if possible). I don't need this server to be a file server or anything like that, just a backup server.
I have been reading stuff on rsync and samba, but it seems as though rsync just saves files, but I need a whole drive image, so that I can literally make the computer the same as it was a day or two before. I am not versed on network installs and the like, so the easier the better. I work at a very small company, and I just don't have the resources to get an IT guy, or learn advanced IT stuff. I know how to install stuff in linux, and am able to mess around with files and settings.
Do I have any good options? Is there a website that will walk me through this setup that I have not been able to search out via google?
