Confused on Linux backup server.

I have been reading webpages and forums for a couple days, and I think I am more confused than I was when I started.

Situation: I currently have a windows home server connected to a router. I have 6 computers connected wirelessly to the home server and creating backups everyday and holding them for 10 days. However, the home server does not work as I would like. I do not have room for a monitor and periphs, so the constant updates and stuff are killing me. Then, when I went to actually restore a computer, the computer could not find the server, even though they were both connected to the router through cat5.

What I want: A linux server, preferably ubuntu server or the like. I want the server to create images of the HD and store them. If a computer goes down, I want to be able to burn the image to a cd/dvd and install the system with that(or an easier way that works wirelessly if possible). I don't need this server to be a file server or anything like that, just a backup server.

I have been reading stuff on rsync and samba, but it seems as though rsync just saves files, but I need a whole drive image, so that I can literally make the computer the same as it was a day or two before. I am not versed on network installs and the like, so the easier the better. I work at a very small company, and I just don't have the resources to get an IT guy, or learn advanced IT stuff. I know how to install stuff in linux, and am able to mess around with files and settings.

Do I have any good options? Is there a website that will walk me through this setup that I have not been able to search out via google?

Is this using WHS v1? Mine doesn't update very often at all, and I don't really notice if it does. As far as the restore process, there are a couple gotchas that you might be running into, getting the right driver is one of them (a usb key with the drivers should help here) and also the network itself.

You can try unplugging the router from the WAN or just connecting the server and pc to be restored together. Hope this helps.

I am not sure the version, but I think it is version 1. It seems like I have to update every 2 weeks or so. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it is a pain for a server that I don't want to even bother with unless something goes wrong with a client computer.

As far as restoring, I have tried a bunch of things including just hooking it straight up to the server through cat5 etc. It was more work/hassle than I desire.

I will check out amahi a little more.

Amahi is good, have it running on my server now. Pretty stable, easy enough to modify. I've not used to backup features so I cannot comment on their effectiveness or ease of use.
