Hi guys,

I want to upgrade my pc with some more memory but I'm kind of a semi-noob at this stuff so after googling a lot I'm utterly confused and don't know what to buy. I hope someone here can suggest what would make the most sense for me to do.

I have the following system:

AMD 64 3200+
Epox 9NPA+ nf4, s939
2x512mb GeiL Value PC3200 CL2.5
Running windows xp

Should I simply buy 2 more of these? They are pretty cheap (less than $100 for 2 blocks), at least then I wouldn't have to worry about what kind of memory to get which is what confused me in the first place. Or should I get 2x1 GB instead of some other brand/type for a total of 3GB and in that case which? Would it still run dual channel if I did? And does it have to be the exact same specs? I know its CL2.5 but when I googled everybody talked about timings and I'm really pretty clueless as to what exactly that is. Can I use ram that is CL3? Lower is better right? Should I get PC3200 again or would it be better to get some PC3700 or 4000? I should I simply ditch the old memory and buy some new blocks with better specs (whatever that is)? Would I even see better performance if I got e.g. PC4000? Hope someone can help, sorry for being such a noob!

These days and, for a 939 system, I would suggest you try to find a suitable 2 x 1gb kit. In general, 939s like 2 x 1gb better than a comparable 4 x 512mb setup. And, if you want to OC, the faster kits are better of course but also getting harder to find.
