hey all

i was looking at some mobo pics and i saw that there was pretty much 5 i/o ports: 1 floppy, 2 ide, and 2 for raid <-- correct me if i'm wrong.

so anyways, my question is: Should i be using the ide ports for my hdd/cdroms or the raid? i understand that i probably dont' need raid support, so should i just leave those raid ports alone and not plug anything in to them?

thanks all

I believe you can use the Raid ports just like a regualar HD controller. In the bios of the Raid controller you get the option to make a raid drive out of whatever drives are connected to it. The raid drive will then show up as one hard drive to the computer.

Edit - "Quad's bitchin' P1!" I hope this means your considering an uprade. :)

yeah..IDE for the CD-ROM, etc., and RAID for the two identical HD's...if you want to use RAID that is.

Just have your reguler hard drives hooked up to the raid controller, and you cd roms hooked up to the IDE controller. The raid controller is a normal Ide controller with raid capabilitys.

ohhhh, thanks guys

last question: so since the 2 raid controllers can function as regular ide controllers, does mean i have a total of 4 potential ide controllers? so i could use 8 ide devices at once?

thanks again
