I'm having a dilema how or what not to make my new system. It's confusing what CPU, memory, graphics card, mobo to get. It was so much simpler just few years ago....Any suggestion in what I should get for 600-700 on just comp?

This comp will just be for regular use like applications, internet and once in a while games. I would like to play Doom 3.

His budget is in his last sentence. Ok...so since Im here @ work and really bored, I will newegg you a system. I will assume you already have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

CASE: Antec Solution Series Super Mid Tower w/ 350W PSU - $65
OPTICAL: Lite-On 8x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW drive - $62 (today only sale)
STORAGE: 80GB Seagate 7200RPM Hard drive - $62
MEMORY: 2x Pqi 512MB PC3200 - $144($72x2)
MOTHERBOARD: Abit NF7-S2 - $60.39
CPU: Sempron 2500+ (retail) - $73
VIDEO: Sapphire ATi Radeon 9800pro (possibly softmod to 9800XT) - $209
TOTAL: $675.39

hmmm no sound 🙁 I guess I'll just use the one on the MOBO and since with that budget I think i could upgrade the HD to WD 160gig

$700 isnt much if you wanna play Doom3. You could probably save some money in some places. You could shop around for a MIR deal on a hard drive and DVD+/-RW. You could probably find a drive for $50 and a DVD for $40. THat would save you $34 which would be enough to pick up an Ok sound card.
