confused...dl speeds?

heres a newbie question... how do the speeds translate? if dsl says it downloads at 768 kbps then why would it show something around 80kps when downloading a file or mp3?

Network connections are generally rated in "bits per second," the density of 1's and 0's being pushed through the wire.

What you are seeing is "[kilo]bytes per second." The relationship between the two is 1 byte = 8 bits, so if you do the math, and figure in a bit of protocol / transfer overhead, your DSL connection is performing about where it should be.
