Although I do not have your exact motherboard (I have the Gig. 8KNXP), I did purchase the Soyo BayOne UFO USB 2.0, 6 in 1 Flash memory and Firewire device. I too was initially perplexed as the Soyo instructions (page 11) kept referencing the 1394?s Gray wire as ?shell?. They also referenced the White wire as ?VP?, but I figured out that white wire mates to the Gigabyte 1394 pins named ?power?. I found a web site
http://frontx.com/cpx105_2.html that had an excellent 1394 pin-out description, including the ?illusive? wire known in Soyo circles as ?shell?. Evidently some 1394 applications have an optional ground known as ?S-GND?. According to the web site referenced above, if your motherboard does not have a pin-out for S-GND one does not need to worry. On my 8KNXP, one 1394 connection had it (F1_1394, Pin 10), but my other connector F2_1394 did not?. go figure!
I hope this helps?. The Frontx web site really clarified this enigma for me.
Good Luck
