Hey folks
i have a DSL modem with an IP of 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.252(programmed in by isp). my isp uses PPPOE. i am tryin to setup a LAN and was just confused on certain things
1) does the dsl modem and the router have to share the same subnet mask?
2) my current modem already does PPPOE authentication, should i leave the modem as it is or setup my router for authentication instead?

Thanks

If the PPPOE works OK using the modem and your Router let the signal through leave it alone.

Modem and WAN side of Router assume the same subnet just leave the Router on dynamic and let it handle the WAN side on its own... LAN Side of Router uses the internal LAN subnet.

However if your Modem is actually a combo DSL Modem and one port Router it is a different story. If it so your additional Router should be used as a simple switch.
