How can you live in America and be racist? That's like using Internet Explorer to bitch about how much you hate Microsoft. Does anyone know what I'm saying?

Discuss.

Perhaps using internet explorer to complain about Microsoft is just a way of punctuating your point?;)

But I think you're attributing too much logic to racists.

I suppose that america is considered the melting pot of different people and their cultures--thats what makes america unique is because we, by nature of our constitution, don't discrminate. Other countries are exclusive or more so than ours ever has or probably willl be.

Not really. Living in America means you're free to believe whatever the hell you want. If that involves determining certain people to be inferior based on the color of their skin, so be it.

Racism is, albeit weirdly, one of the pure examples of what it is to be American.

That's a very good point. But I mean :::speaking generally::: , at one point your relative came here as an immigrant from some other country. It's rediculous to be living here, complaining about immigrants when that is the reason you're here in the first place.

before you accuse others of racism, look within yourself

some people who accuse others of racism are the biggest racists in the world

Racist logic:

America is for white people. If you're not white, then you don't belong here.

Nothing confusing. Oh, and don't try to argue with this statement, a racist person won't hear anything beyond this line and its simplicity.

America definetly is racist, but what about Europe? As much racist, if not more.

Racism extends from a lot of different things. Some races may think they're superior based on being here first, being the only type of race in the area, thinking they've done better than other races, whatever.

Racism is based on ignorance and stupidity. Some people just don't know better, other people know better, but choose to ignore it. There really is no other way to define it.

most european countries are far less racist
here in america, to see an interracial couple on the streets or on TV or in movies is a surprise, rarely happens at all
there, it's the norm, because when you think about it, if we are really not racists, the chance/probability of ending up with a person of the same race is less than the probability to end up with a person of a different race simply because there will always be more people of different race than yours

furthermore, if you're say "white" and you move to an asian country, I bet you the will accept you more than the "whites" accept asian immigrants here
i put "white" in quotes because i dont believe in labeling people white or black or whatever, i am just doing this for the sake of the argument that america is racist
no other place on earth you are asked to fill out forms that require you to identify your race/ethnicity

when halle berry won oscar they made is such a shock for an "african" to win it, i say she's not even african, she is american
who is african then? charlize theron is african and she won the oscar too, but the never made it such a big deal
here africa is used as a race classification, not a place on earth where someone is from

sorry if i am not being clear

Are you serious? On most of the shows that attract viewers here in the US, you'll see interracial couples. You'll see people of different race interacting with each other. Interracial relationships are everywhere, I guess you just choose to ignore them or don't watch enough TV.

Also, from what I've heard, European countries are quite unaccepting of others. I'd like some of our AT EU people to swing by and comment on it.

You know, they're racist in China too, but the difference is the white race is at the top of their ladder.

Family comedy is not the only genre of shows on TV. I suggest you broaden your horizons.

suggestion taken and appreciated
i actually dont watch tv, that was just an example

could you instead give me a counter example where there is a multiracial family on american tv, preferably not just one show in the midst of millions of uniracial show families

and have you ever been to europe? remember, i am saying america is more racist than most european countries, so it's a comparison

I'm gonna revise my statement. Europeans are not racist, they are nationalists. Americans on the other hand, racist.

Some TV shoes that have interracial relationships (IE sexual involvement with each other) that I come to mind:

Smallville
The Real World
The Simple Life
Friends
Ally McBeal
Boy Meets World
ER

Not to mention a myriad of those soap-opera and gossipy shows. There are also many more shows that have interracial neighbors, friends, family members, etc.

Also, I really don't consider myself to watch that much TV ( < an hour a day usually).
