confused about LCDs and who makes what

i am looking to buy a 17in lcd. i prefer to buy something with a very good warranty...planar. i would also like to have dvi. but after reading through many threads, i started to realize that some lcd could be the same since they use the same substrate (?). not that i have any idea what that implies. but i heard good things about dells and samsungs as well. i have also read on another board that BenQ makes a good lcd. nec seems nice, but after reading their warranty...no way. but again i would prefer to pay a smidge more for a better warranty. could someone give me some guidance or recommendations. thanks.
 
Dell = rebadged / relabeled other people (like Samsung), sometimes with shorter warranty. Samsung is an excellent brand.

If you go to the main Anandtech site and type LCD into the search box at the right of the screen it will find several good articles.

Also go to TomsHardware.com and click the "displays" link on the main page for articles like this 17" roundup (there are several other 17" articles so don't stop there).
