Confused about DX9.0b Installation

What's going on here? What DX version do I want to install? THere was one file that was only 260 K and it rerquired an internet connection. I don't like making a habit out of installing software while downloading it. I'd rather download the entire DirectX file for 9.0b and THEN install it... Am a crazy? Will the installs be identical. What do you fols prefer?

# DirectX 9.0b has a silent install (no UI, and no reboot) which is available to Microsoft Volume License Customers (VLC) on the following Microsoft Volume License Site (MVLS). This is a Multi-lingual package which does not require an internet connection during installation.

The VLC will have to go through a registration process to get access to the Downloads and their a
greement info. After the VLC initially signed their agreement, the Notices or Primary on the agreement would have received an MVLS invitation e-mail, which includes a unique Registration ID, which they should have used to gain access to their agreements. If they didn?t do this within 90 days, their RegID expires and they have to ask support to help gain access. The support links are stated on the site, but if they?re in the US send mail to mvlshelpa@msdirectservices.com.

1. Login to the site (https://licensing.microsoft.com )
2. Click downloads in the left nav menu (You must have agreements in their view to see this link)
3. Choose ?keyword? search
4. Type DirectX, click Search
5. They should see the link for DirectX..

There are the same thing. I used the web install for my home machine and I have since downloaded the redist to bring over to friends houses that do not have high speed. Get which ever one you feel comfortable with.

go with the redistributabal, save it form having to go out and download the rest, Why does microsoft do that anyway? i mean with the small file that goes downloads the larger

Thanks for the replies guys... Yes, I hat installing while downloading. Seems "odd" that M'soft forces users to do this with critacal updates/service packs. I'd liek to be able to download these too for safekeepiong/fresh installs.

Usually if you are interrupted during the "install" phase and click the update icon of the smaller initial download it will restore you to where you left off. I liked myself when I had dial-up

The webdist file does not download all the components unless you need them.

It works pretty well

I use the redisb because I have 5 systems. I throw it on the server and then copy it to each comp.

It works for me.

I also have it on a disc incase I am on site.

Having the service packs on dirtectX on the server has really cut down on my install time even with a pretty fast (3.0Mbs) connection.
