Confused about crest factor and the relation to db... Calling all EEs!

Hello - I've been doing some research on the crest factor of a standard sine wave. While all sources list the crest factor as 1.414, they also list this as 3db (when referencing audio waves). Does anyone how they derive 3dbs from the 1.414 ratio? Thanks!
