confused about Bits and Bytes

ok, i know that 8 bits = a byte

so is kb = kilobit or does kB = kilobit, does capital B = bit or does b = bit? also is 56K modems measured in Kilobytes per secound or kilobits?

56K is kilobits. Normally kb=kilobits and KB=kilobytes.

Kb = Kilobit KB = Kilobyte

56K = 56000 Kilobits

I think:

B = byte
b = bit

and 56kbps modem is k-bit per second.
