Confused about a PayPal thing

amol

Lifer
We're new to PayPal here at my house, so please, bear with me

I wanted to buy something off of eBay that was $10 but my balance on PayPal was $0, so I added funds of $50 from my Bank Account to Paypal

However, it is expected to clear on Jan 5th and the auction end Jan 4th . . .

Would we be able to still bid on the item, win it, pay and then have the money deducted from the $50 we put in last night?

Thanks for the help, this whole PayPal thing is confusing to me and my family

Sure! That's exactly how Paypal works; just let the seller know you'll pay within one day of the auction's end.

The thing is, this guy need payment immediately

It's a $150 off coupon that I can't find anywhere else (the Dell AMEX thing)

I need that coupon before 10pm on Jan 5th, that's why . . .

If your account is linked to a bank and backed by a credit card you can just send the money. Paypal will automatically withdraw the funds from your bank and pay the seller in advance.

I have never needed to use the add funds function. My acct sits at $0.

Ok, in that case you should not have transferred funds to your account.

Basically when you go to paypal you can send him a payment once you win the auction, and one of the options will be to choose where you want to money to come from. You can choose that the money should come from your bank or a CC of yours. If you send a payment like that then the payment is instant, however if you want to deposit money to your account then you need to wait for it to clear.

for instant payment, you either have to have the funds in your account already or use a credit card.

Yep, if you have a credit card, you could totally throw out all the hassle of waiting for the transfer to complete.

thanks everyone! 🙂

I don't understand, I don't keep any money in my paypal account. When I go to pay someone, money is withdrawn from the checking account that I have tied to it at the time of the transaction. There is no delay.

I believe what you are doing shows up on the seller's end as an e-check, which takes time to clear from your bank.

If you back it up with a credit card, I'm almost positive that they'll send it instantly.

Didn't want to start a new thread . . .

How long does it take to verify a CC transaction?? I thought it would be instantanious . . . or is it because it's Sunday??

<------------ Getting a little antsy

I pay with my savings account instantly, $0 Pay Pal balance.

I don't know if this is what you are asking but to verify my CC I had to wait for the bill at the end of the month to enter in the PIN.

Yeah, PayPal is great.

Especially when they do a charge-back on your credit card with no explanation.

no.

Did Paypal just change something with the way the do withdrawls from your checking account? Or does it act differently if you have a balance?

Reason for asking is I just recently transferred $20 to my PP account for just in case. I tried to pay from my bank account with a balance on there, and it put it through as an echeck, where it usually puts it through as a debit backed by a credit card.

If you have a balance, can you not pay as a debit?
