ok so wtf.
i bought a direct view 16:9 sanyo with a built in tuner
the tv has hdmi inputs.
component.etc.
i have an (scientific altanta)adelphia digital box.
right now,i have it hooked up to the analog connection, tis there a need to keep the digital box?or do i feed directly from the coax into the digital coax tuner.
regular tv looks like crap, xbox stretched looks like garbage(have it currently running thru svideo)
I NEED HELP,i am not too bright or motivated.
🙁
suggestions?,there's svideo/etc. on scientific atanta box, with some other outputs.
🙁

You SA box should have an appropriate HD output to which you connect your TV. It could be DVI, it could be component. I have no clue since I have a Moto cable box.

Of course regular TV will look like crap. You should have a zoom feature on your TV for 4:3 signals and 16:9 signals.

ok,its a digital box, so there is no way i can view ANY programming that is broadcast in hd without going to the hd service?

I think I have the same TV as you do.

Yes, standard def looks like crap. If you play Xbox its a must to get the component cables to get the HD stuff (480p and up). Also, make sure and go into the Xbox's menu and tell it you're using a widescreen TV and not a standard one.

I've actually gotten used to the stretched fat look of normal cable and the quality isn't that bad. Cartoons don't look bad at all, but anything with real people or anything does kinda look messed up. However, after watching that, normal cable on a standard tv looks too skinny half the time.

It has both standard and digital coaxial inputs. I'd probably use whatever hi-def box you get from your cable provider and then run it in through either the component or HDMI interfaces.

I need to hook my Zenith indoor HD antennae up and see if I can get any channels around here. Probably won't work so great since I'm in a basement of an apartment building, but oh well, we'll see.

Get a nice Terk antenna and pray you get good broadcast signal coverage in your home.

If your TV does have a built-in HD tuner, hopefully QAM, you might be able to hook up the coax cable line directly to it and pick up the unencrypted channels (the local channels, basically).

Edit: As others have said, an antenna would be the surest way to receive something (again, assuming your TV has an internal tuner...)

Nope. Not unless you get an over the air antennae. You'll have to pay for the cost of it, but the channels you get will be free. Depending on where you are you might actually pull in some pretty good ones.

Call your cable co and ask them about their HDTV boxes... I know my cable co charges the same amount for a HD box and a "digital" box. Now you want to get a dual tuner HD recorder and those are a few bucks more (mine is 10 extra per month but well worth it)
