Iraq and North Korea have dominated the world's attention in recent months, yet in countries and regions around the globe, strife smolders with sporadic notice.

Civil war. Mutilations. Threat of nuclear deployment. Human trafficking. Starving babies. Those are some of the seeds and harvest of conflicts in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

Sometimes we lose sight of the fact we are brothers and sisters on this planet. Yet, I have a nice home, car, freedom, good food, yep I'm very lucky---and grateful. Yet this is 2003, and there are still people living in rain forests and on savannahs eating grubs and animals they can kill in a hunt to sustain themselves, clothed in tree bark and leaves, and seeking shelter from the elements in caves,or if resourceful in mud huts with thatched roofs.

Why do we not do more to help our brothers and sisters catch up to the 21st century? Are we not our brothers keeper?:(

I was watching a documentary on how the U.S. or any other world leader, isn't doing squat to help save millions of people in Africa dying of AIDS... although i believe we have our own problems to worry about... and yet we can't even solve them... it's quite sad when cheap generic medicines are prevented from reading those who need it just because the original company that developed the medicine is going to lose profit... :(

Didn't watch Bush's State of the Union Speech I take it?

Bush Promoting Plan to Combat HIV in Africa
President Bush said Friday that he wants Congress to provide $15 billion in the next five years to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and the Caribbean.

I'd say education (or the lack thereof) is the big thing that prevents AIDS from being contained in Africa.

Oh, and who's to say what lifestyle is better? I'm sure given enough time we could learn to enjoy a simple life foraging for food, and sleeping in natural shelters.

Yes... but people have been asking for years about this now... better late than never... and its coming out of our pockets. Whether that's a good thing or not... depends on some people.

As noble as "helping our brothers" seems, they need to help themselves first. Look at Somolia.....what did we get for trying to help?.....our dead soldiers dragged through the streets.....
