Conflicting Opinions

I am thinking of upgrading my Voodoo3 3000 to a Geforce 2 now that the prices have come down a bit but my only concern was about the 2d quality. So I keep an eye on these boards and even other boards and see that some people have good 2d with one brand and the with that same brand someone else says its lousy. So I'm wondering if it's just the quailty of monitor that people are using that seems to cause these conflicting opinions from one brand of GTS to another or is it just whether your lucky to get a good card or not. Well either way I just hope its not a let down if and when I do decide to retire my Voodoo.

I know there are people that are happy with the 2D performance of their Geforce. However, if 2D is your priority then stay away from Geforce, while it is a good video card, 2D is definately not it's strong point. If you want flat out speed, then the Ultra is hard to beat. If you want a good compromise for excellent 2D and good speed, than I would go for a Radeon. If you want excellent overall image, compatibility and adequate speed, then maybe a V5 would suit you, I have tried all three and prefer the Voodoo 5500. All right nvidia guys, flame away I'm ready for ya!

Well thanks for the response rogue and while I do some on and off line gaming, I just don't want to become a visine junky cause of shotty 2d when I do surf the net or anything on my PC. I do agee with you, from what I read, about the Voodoo's image quality and accecptable speed but the compatibility part is my only concern because how long can that last without future support. I had the Radeon and it was sweet but it just didn't like playing some older 16bit games and I do. I guess I'll just have to take a shot on one of the better known brands and worst case scenario I will just have to sell the thing which is kinda of pain but oh well. Like I said in my first post,it's just kinda funny how one brand can have great 2d and that same brand someone else says its crappy.

I've had an asus v7700 gts, and the 2d wasn't that bad, Not as good as the G400 or the Radeon, but you won't get a headache from looking at the screen for a few hours... if that helps.

if you run resolutions @ 1024 and below, there aren't many problems.

If you run higher, you may run into issues with many of the geforces and especially with Trinitron monitors

I've had 3 Geforces. Creative Labs and Guillemot looked poor, the Inno3d that i have now is about as good as a V3-3000, imho, but not quite as good as a 5500
