Confirmed--Realtek Audio Codecs don't render EAX!

According to this article in Daily Tech, Realtek has been lying about it's codec supporting EAX and EAX2--it's just passing the signal without the audible positioning clues. Translation, if you're a gamer playing an EAX game with a Realtek audio solution, you're not getting the full audio presentation.

Oh, and to make matters worse, because Realtek's audio solutions aren't expending the CPU processing cycles needed to fully render EAX and EAX2, motherboards utilizing Realtek audio solutions have an unfair advantage in performance tests against other motherboards using different audio solutions.

Makes me glad I use a Creative soundcard.

Notice how this only covers EAX & EAX 2?
That's because afaik Creative haven't licenced 3 & 4 to anybody else at all ...

Er, why's it silly to say the RealTek motherboards have an unfair advantage in performance tests?

There?s also an issue with some motherboard reviews that use Rightmark 3D Sound for CPU utilization tests and award the onboard audio solution with the lowest utilization the superior solution when the onboard audio solution isn?t fully rendering EAX/EAX2 audio. Analog Devices and Creative Labs testing show the Realtek high definition onboard audio showing very little CPU utilization in Rightmark 3D Sound?s EAX2 CPU utilization test because it?s not applying any EAX2 effects.

well if you're saying "we are benchmarking these three solutions, realtek, creative & analog devices using eax2" and the results are that the realtek is faster, but isn't REALLY doing EAX2 it's an unfair advantage, if and only if realtek are claiming they are. it takes less cpu cycles to not do EAX2 so of course they are going to be faster.

i think that's what he means.

edit: quoted wrong post, but left for whoever said it wasn't unfair.
