I'm open to the possibility that a Republican might not be evil. Ryan disappoints.

from: http://endthelie.com/2012/08/15/in-case-you-missed-it-71-year-old-taken-down-as-paul-ryan-laughs/

In case you missed this clip when it originally surfaced in September of last year, here it is. For those who think Representative Paul Ryan is a trustworthy, respectable person, please witness how he reacts to the genuine concerns of a hard-working senior citizen.

This type of cold, hateful behavior is just par for the course when we’re talking about politicians and obviously Paul Ryan is no different. Looks like he’ll make a great partner for Mitt Romney, the king of flip flopping.

From the YouTube video:

As Congressman Paul Ryan cracked a joke about him, Tom Nielsen found himself face down on the floor being handcuffed by police. The 71-year-old retired plumber from Kenosha was thrown to the ground, placed in handcuffs, and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after objecting to Ryan’s plans to gut Social Security and Medicare during his congressman’s only public appearance scheduled during the August recess — a $15 Rotary Club luncheon in West Allis on Tuesday.

Nielsen repeatedly told police that he wasn’t fighting them and that he didn’t want to make any trouble. He also told them several times that he had a broken shoulder. Police officers ignored his comments as they wrestled him to the ground despite his howls of pain.

The following is from Diane Sweet with Occupy America:

This took place last fall at one of Congressman Rep. Ryan’s “Pay to Play” town hall meetings where he was discussing cutting Senior’s Social Security, and Medicare as a means of debt reduction. As you might imagine, one senior was not pleased.

Ryan: “Most of our debt in the future comes from our entitlement programs.”

Senior citizen: “Hey, (Garbled; Ryan continues to speak). I paid into that for 50 years, my unemployment and my Social Security and my Medicare, and now you’re gonna…” At this point you hear the police who are dragging him out shouting, “on the ground, on the ground”.

Ryan then jokes, “I hope he’s taken his blood-pressure medication”, and the room laughs with him.

While they manhandled the guy and the article says he was charged with tresspassing, and resisting arrest, court records (AFAICT) don't list any such case. Probably dropped as the charges were unfounded.

Ayn Rand would be proud. Is there no doubt that Ryan is a villain? Propelled by a ghastly ideology at a young age left to fester in Washington DC for 2 decades. A walking, talking radical that makes one look back fondly on conventional racism. I mean we all know Republican's game of racism. But this new bullshit they're running with? Romney/Ryan? Mediscare tactics from Republicans...who only yesterday wanted to blow up all of government. Socialism for the rich, let them eat shit for the rest. This ticket is a clouded monstrosity. Obama's campaign symbol is rainbows in a circle, Romney/Ryans is a vagina with teeth. DO NOT PUT YOUR DICK HERE AMERICA!

This is what makes republicans racists and evil? LOL, you guys are pathetic.
I would say that the joke that Ryan cracked makes him heartless. It's ok to discuss reform, but keep the unprofessional wise cracks to yourself.

This guy looks so familiar. He looks like a villain in a movie I saw but I can't figure out what movie it is. LOL.

Wow, they didn't even let the guy speak his mind at all. They just jumped him and removed him immediately. God forbid anyone actually debate anything at all, ever. This is the end game with these people. Facism through propagandist driven democracy.

I think it is a (shhhhhh!) conspiracy to suppress progressive left wing union Democrats. Especially those that want to cling to their God given, ummm, Government given bennies.

Did you see how many in that room were actually listening to Ryan speak? It would drive any lefty absolutely batshit. If I were one, like that guy, I certainly would stand up, start screaming at the top of my voice and make threatening gestures. I am not, so I am just sayin'.

Not only was Ryan making light of the seriousness of the maddened union Democrat, I think he was unfairly mocking his outrage. It was not a contest of equals. Didn't Ryan KNOW there is nothing worse in this world than mocking an incensed union shill. Nothing.

I think Ryan remaining calm and collected, even to the point of finding humor in the situation, is just an indication that he would remain calm under the pressures of being Vice President. That is certainly not the Democrat way. Everyone would be much more impressed if Ryan adopted a Southern drawl and darkly warned them that CHAINS, them CHAINS and SHACKLES, are in their future if they did not watch out.

Amirite?

I'M SORRY, I AM TRYING TO HEAR YOU BUT ALL OF THE SHOUTING IS MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAKE OUT ANYTHING AT ALL!

COULD YOU PLEASE REPEAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING ABOUT DRIVING TO POPEYE'S IN DC?

(Holey Moley, I tried to type that out in caps and it went to lower case. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!)

Even if you support Paul Ryan's policies, this is a bad sign since it displays cold-heartedness on a personal level.

A good politician would have turned it around to some broaded philosophical point about "responsibility not being easy" instead of making a cheap crack about the guy's health.

I agree. Paul should have opened his arms, smiled that devilish smile and walked slowly, ever so slowly toward him to give him a big man hug.

Then everyone in the room should have gathered in a big circle around them while they clinched and waved their fingers in the air singing Kumbaya.

I would have loved to have been there for that.

I just explained how he could have handled it better that fits within Republican thought.

Okay, watched the video. One very important distinction: Between the time that the guy gets handcuffed to the time Ryan says, "I hope he's taken his blood pressure medication", there's a cut in the video. Also, I didn't hear Ryan laughing at the guy as he was being handcuffed, as the description asserts. For that matter I didn't hear Ryan laughing at all.

What we don't know:

- How long the protester was yelling before the cops grabbed him. Seems unlikely that the cops would leap up at the first show of dissent. They were there the second the guy started talking in the video. Is it not possible, even likely, that the guy had been heckling for some time, and the cops were summoned after excessive disturbance?

- The amount of time that transpired between the guy being handcuffed and Ryan cracking his joke. The OP seems to frame it as Ryan laughing and telling jokes as the man is face down being handcuffed while screaming in pain. That may or may not be the case, but the video doesn't show that. It shows: Guy being taken away by police; escorted into another room where I assume he was cuffed on the floor. Cut to another video: Ryan sez, "I hope he's taken his blood pressure medication." We don't even know if the events of this video transpired in the sequence they were presented.

They were two different videos from two different video cameras. All we can really say is that both videos were recorded at the same event.

How would you know Republican thought?

Are you a Republican?
Seriously? This is what you guys are stooping to now?

Holy fuck you typical conservatives are the saddest bunch ive ever seen.

I would love to love the Republican party since my views are fiscally conservative, but people like you make it damn hard. Fucking whiny as hypocrites to the core.

The cut is meaningless, since whether or not he laughs while the man is on the ground or after, he still makes a joke at the man's expense.

And yeah, the guy was wrong to interrupt Ryan, but still.

There's a difference between making fun of someone I dislike while you're on the floor in pain, and making a joke about it later. We don't even know if Ryan saw the guy on the floor at all. The guy was removed from the room. All Ryan saw, at least by that video, was the man being taken away.

The joke could just as likely been targeted at the fact that the man was yelling and excited, not that he was painfully cuffed.

He interrupted Ryan in mid sentence. Of course he should not be allowed to do so. If people started to shout over Obama every time he says anything, I am sure your tune would change.
