And it continues. They Yankees have barely done anything noteworthy this offseason and they still get bashed for spending money. Unbelievable.

Seriously ThePresence.I know your a die hard Yanks fan.How do you feel about that deal? Do you think this is good or bad for baseball? I think this is pretty bad personnaly.( not for the yanks team..but for the baseball itself)Its something you dont think that will happen...its like Jeter or Williams going with the Red Sox...its the unthinkable.
This is not Barry Bonds going to the Dodgers. Really. It's not even Bernie Williams going to the Sox. He's only been in Boston since 2002, not like he's a career long Red Sox player. I don't think it's good or bad for baseball, it's a simple free agent signing. What gets me mad is everyone automatically knee-jerking how it's the Yankees throwing money around again when they barely did anything notable this offseason and were remarkably frugal.

Agree. But it tough Damon would die as a Sox.Im really shocked! This is not bad money throwned tho, i think the Yanks got a championship secured with Damon. With Damon, do you know the total payroll of the yanks so far?

I am disgusted at this. I WAS a huge johnny fan. Now he can go fvck himself like the rest of those greedy bastards. I absolutely hate the Yankees, and I wish I had an unlimited bank roll

hey I love JD just like any other Sox fan, but I knew all along that he was no different from ANY other MLB player when it came to money - don't think loyalty counts a bit in professional sports, because it doesn't!
Is that why Paul Konerko stayed in Chicago instead of taking more money from Anaheim?

sorry but one player out of hundreds doesn't change the fact that the players go where the money is

Like i said, the little $200 million train that could :disgust:

Here's the world's smallest violin playing for you.

And people wonder why baseball is losing popularity to football. disgust;

Actually it's the $200 million train that couldn't. And Boston's payroll is not far behind. The Yankees trimmed down their payroll this season. (Kevin Brown, Bernie Williams, Etc.)

No I don't. Let's wait until everyone has their complete roster settled before starting the annual payroll arguments. :)

This sucks. The Yankees did not need another bat in that lineup. Just needed someone who could play good defense. Damon has a noodle for an arm, his range isnt that great anymore, and they overpaid for him.
Yankees haven't had a leadoff hitter since knoblauch. Damon's range is fine, and he never had much of an arm.

Jeter is probably the best leadoff hitter in the game.

Hopefully the Red Sox make some good moves to keep their team as good, if not better than the Yankees, since their rivalry is easily the best in baseball.

Should be interesting to see if Toronto can get in the mix too.

I'm a Mets fan, and the NL East was pretty exciting due to the closeness in the standings of the teams. Lets just hope the Mets can actually get their moneys worth in performance from their players next year. :)

Jeter is a much better #2 hitter than a leadoff hitter.

Not even close to Jeter or Williams going to the Sox.

You're right in the grand scheme of things but your first statement is false. Not ALL players go where they get the most money.

Can George Stienbrener die already? The world and especially Baseball would be much better if he was down in hell sucking off Satan.

They hardly took the best player from Boston. Which other teams did they take the "best" player from in the past few years?

GO Yankees! Even if he doesn't do anything great this year, its worth it to be able to hear the red sox fans complain about and try to minimalize this move.

Damon's range is overrated. I didn't count, but it seemed most of the times he got to the balls in the gaps he missed the catch. And his arm can barely get it to the infield.

Boston bought him away from Oakland, so why the fuss when the yanks got him because Boston wouldn't cough up more dough/years? (and I agree with letting him go).

Offense is not our main problem, it was our pitching from the starters to closers. Of course we'll miss him as a good leadoff hitter, but I'm not crying doom and devestation to my sox.

And for salary, saying Boston ain't far behind the yanks is crazy. Here is the list of top 10 salaries for 2005.

New York Yankees $208M
Boston Red Sox $123M
New York Mets $101M
Los Angeles Angels $98M
Philadelphia Phillies $96M
St. Louis Cardinals $92M
San Francisco Giants $90M
Seattle Mariners $88M
Chicago Cubs $87M
Atlanta Braves $86M

So the Red Sox total salary was 40.8% less than the Yanks, or $85M. That difference would rank 11th in the top salaries.

yep better #2. jeter tacks on around 100k per yr. generally don't like that as a leadoff hitter. prototype would be a slap/singles hitter, contact hitter, just get on 1st as often as possible kind of guy.

is he above? i find him below. and compared to what the yankees are replacing williams with...

i think damon is slightly faster than williams since williams declined due to age, but damon has a weak arm for a cf. williams might have just a few more rpm, but he's very week these past 3 yrs as well.

so overall, im not convinced the yanks have upgraded the cf, defensively.

offensively, they've changed the lineup. now they have a leadoff kind of guy which they haven't in yrs.

And I hated Clemens and Boggs before they got to NY too.

Okay, I never loved them, but they had Boston in their blood for so long. Damon was just a hired gun.
