Your title is misleading...

What you witnessed was the dealership promoting rice, not Honda... Honda has no control whether the dealerships sell "Type-R" stickers or not...

Yes. If you wanted to slap a huge Type-R emblem on your Civic Type-R even though it comes with them already on the car, I wouldn't consider that rice.

It's only when the car ISN'T what the sticker claims it is (e.g. Type-R on a Civic DX or a VTEC sticker on a non-VTEC Honda), that I would call it rice.

Actually, Honda has pretty much completely ignored the "ricers" and the enthusiasts too, Subaru/Mitsu have high performance compacts..where's honda's? They wont even bring the R over this year..

::shrug:: Honda seems to be aimed more at the lower budget end of the car buyer's market rather than the people with money to burn on a sport compact like the WRX or Evo. Not to bag on Honda or anything. I drive a 2000 Civic and it's been nothing but reliable for 3+ years, if not the most exciting or expensive car in the world. I'd definitely buy another Civic if my budget doesn't allow for me to move up to something more sporty after I pay this car off.

Putting a fart can, neon wipers, viper eyes and Type R emblems on a DX would be.

Adding NOS to any car is not rice...adding a supercharger/turbo is not rice.

How is that not rice? Rice is appending performance-minded attributes to a car without the performance, stickers in this case. Type-R servers only to convey a level of performance that is not there, thus it's rice. It's like putting that annoying Saleen sticker on the windshield of a Mustang GT.

Uh...putting a Type-R sticker on a real Type-R Honda is not considered rice. If I imported a Civic Type-R from Japan and slapped a Type-R sticker on it, that would be perfectly reasonable and not considered rice.

It would be rice if I slapped one on my stock Civic DX hatchback, however.

I thought my post was clear that I was referring to non-Type-R vehicles, but perhaps I should've been more explicit.

All the companies do that now. You can get STi, Nismo, TRD junk from dealerships now.

erm, i don't see anything wrong with Honda themselves selling real Type-R items...ya do know they sell Type-Rs here in the US? its the ricer companies like APC that rip that off and selling it all over the place like Pep Boys.

Yes, but in America they're pussified versions otherwise known as Si's.

um, i was basically referring to the ITR (Integra Type-R). i don't consider Si's a Type-R...

I was referring to Civics (our Si's are pussied Type-R's that Europe/Japan get). And technically they don't sell Type-R's here - they DID, but that was 2 years ago before the death of the Integra. And 90% of the Type-R stickers you see regardless are on Civics or on Accords - there are very few Type-R stickers on Integras that I've seen. (I've seen one in my lifetime on an Integra, and countless on Civics and Accords)

yeah I agree, it's the dealerships capitalizing on selling these aftermarket upgrades and parts, not Honda itself.

Not necessarily. Some of those things may in fact be Honda authorized parts. I don't know if they are still being produced, but Honda and DC Sports had an agreement where DC sports would make billet products and they would be distributed in Honda dealerships. And Honda does sell Type-R stickers. They should sell them anyways, since it was an OEM part on a production car.
