*sigh* if I only I had my digicam on me right now...

So anyway, I'm posting from the Honda dealership right now since my car's getting an oil change. So I come in to the lounge so I can use one of the courtesy cubicles. But, before I do that, I browse the huge glass display case showing off the latest accessories on sale. What populates said display case?

- Type 'R' stickers
- "Powered by HONDA" stickers
- Kanji script stickers
- Type 'R' baseball cap
- model of riced out Civic
- racing gloves
- billet aluminum stuff...

I mean, I guess I never expected to see this stuff at a dealership. Wow, service guy just came in and almost saw what I was posting as he handed me the paperwork. Well I guess I'm done. Out.

erm, i don't see anything wrong with Honda themselves selling real Type-R items...ya do know they sell Type-Rs here in the US? its the ricer companies like APC that rip that off and selling it all over the place like Pep Boys.

Yes, but in America they're pussified versions otherwise known as Si's.

Toyota does it too. Saw a whole display case of TRD badges, decals, and other non-performance accesories. Accesories = big money.

Putting a Type-R emblem on a Type-R is not rice, adding billet accessories is not rice.

Putting a fart can, neon wipers, viper eyes and Type R emblems on a DX would be.

Adding NOS to any car is not rice...adding a supercharger/turbo is not rice.

That's great, but has nothing to do with promoting rice, not to mention Ford isn't a brand that normally gets riced-out....

You have to see this Honda as they put on TV in here (dont know if its availble in US), it basically shows riced out hondas going on the street (and stupid a song in the back that says "calling all my children from the east and the west...")and get joined by more riced out hondas and they all just go down the street.... anyway, thats the first ad I've seen by any car company that promote rice.

How is that not rice? Rice is appending performance-minded attributes to a car without the performance, stickers in this case. Type-R servers only to convey a level of performance that is not there, thus it's rice. It's like putting that annoying Saleen sticker on the windshield of a Mustang GT.

The dealerships over here sell those things to in their parts dept. And not only Honda, Toyota and Dodge as well. If people are buying it..well..why not sell it?

Uh...putting a Type-R sticker on a real Type-R Honda is not considered rice. If I imported a Civic Type-R from Japan and slapped a Type-R sticker on it, that would be perfectly reasonable and not considered rice.

It would be rice if I slapped one on my stock Civic DX hatchback, however.

I don't normally say this, but STOP POSTING.

That said, putting a 345 HP motor into a car is not rice. That actually enhances the performance of whatever car you happened to stick the motor into, be it a Honda or a Ford. I consider rice to be stupid looking appearance modifications like wings, exhaust tips, Altezzas, etc., not modifications that actually add performance like a turbo or a engine swap.
