*** CONFIRMED ***

This information comes from long-time Apple employee. Believe it or not, you'll all see in 2 hours when WWDC 2005 begins !!!

Apple will move ALL chips to Intel by 2006; The Mac Mini is going first -- processor will be PENTIUM M (Dothan!) -- Apple's investment in software transition company Transitive (which produces emulation allowing x86 execution) will allow this transition to be smooth.

For once I can say something GOOD about Apple !!!

Does anyone believe Tiger will be on our desktops by 2006?

This has been confirmed by ALL the big sources. And, sadly, John C. Dvorak predicted this in 2003.

WINNERS: Apple, Intel, End Users
LOSERS: AMD, Microsoft, IBM

Jobs better hope security is real tight at the conference center today.

There has been no confirmations, just speculations. Link to CONFIRMATIONS please. None of this speculating, back room sources crap.

If I'm wrong, I'll have no issues with the crow. Until then, I'll be tired of people saying "confirmed" when it isn't.

Actually, the articles I read said X86 architecture for CPU, but the Intel/AMD thing still was open. Commented on Apple might use a Dell style deal to get pricing where they want it with Intel, but AMD was not out of the run.

Regardless of what you think, Dothan, the X2 may be very attractive as a G6.

Multicore G5s would be pretty neat too.

Look at the front page of Today's Wall Street Journal

Headline: "Apple is poised to shift to intel as chip provider "

I don't credit someone who has 6 posts. Even said Intel I beileve a chip manufacture as large is Intel is just as capable of making PPC Chips just as much as IBM. I'll beileve it when I see it. A move to x86 would be very interesting, definatly would shake Microsofts ground.

I may be dense, but are those photoshopped at all, Blain? They look pretty legit, but you never know.

They're legit, but this deal won't mean much to Microsoft. If Apple keeps OSX tied to their hardware, the CPU transition will mean nothing to MS. Without the software I want to run, I'm still not going to buy a Mac no matter how cheap it is or what CPU it is running. The transition is supposed to start at the lowend which means the market that MS dominates, gaming, will still be theirs. No half-selfrespecting gamer is going to buy a MacMini or IMac to replace their PC for gaming even if the Mac had the equivalent game library, which they won't any time soon.

I doubt this is going to be a win for Apple. I believe this will kill them to the point of being a software (OS) only company... They are going to be taking on Microsoft for an OS to x86 machines. They will survive, but they won't be anything like what they are now. They will lose the propriety to their hardware very quickly...
