OMG

AMD just shot themselves in the foot :(
Shiz...

lol I thought my 700w PSU would be enough for Crossfire but looks like it is about enough for only 1!

FFS.. Now the retail version will have the length of the OEM version?

And if the power requirements are anywhere near that statements .. WTFBBQ..

It is not looking good.. Every day it passes it gets worse.. It almost makes me sad.. :(

The claims of this article are too ridiculous to be true. It's been long rumored that the retail version is shorter, and yet these guys claim it will be over 13 inches long...
Not to mention that using a smaller manufacturing process, it'd have to be hell of a lot faster than a 8800gtx to use 300W, unless Ati decided to create a Netburst furnace of its own.

Wait a minute..
If I can see correctly this is an I-will server board with dual Xeons if I'm not mistaken..
Who on earth would try an X-fire on a server board? Is this a fake one or an OEM version and they are BS us? :p

You may remember I linked to an AMD interview recently where Ruiz said AMD were focussed on strong server performance.

The thing is, AMD may be ***TOO FOCUSSED*** on server performance and not focussed enough on consumer performance.

I fear that so far as AMD is concerned, R600 is merely a data cruncher to accelerate servers and not a GPU...

Oh well, at least the fanatics will have a physical representation of their e-penis egos...

The fanatics had their fun with nv30, I don't see why nvidia supporters aren't allowed to return the favor.

And apart from my last paragraph there is nothing idiotic about what I wrote. ATi fans may not like it, but thats hardly my problem.

god knows we don't need more of these responses that point to nothing other than an unhealthy obsession (schiz?) with an impersonal force...

I hope for humanity's sake that there are no children in your custody who's minds you may pollute...

edit: typo

oops...

and i do believe that pic to be of the OEM boards, however that doesn't change the power requirements.

Yep 300w seems absurd. 200w more likely, but still way too much.

You need not woory about me "polluting" anyoneone gersson, I can assure you I have better morals than quite a few in Video (the Virtual Lulu or whatever she called "herself" comes to mind...)

And I don't normally carry vendettas at all, but the fnantaics and those within and without ATi who supported them are a special case. Not even the intel shills at the introduction of K7 were as bad. I guess everyone has something that gets his goat. Fanatics are what get mine.

Kyle Bennett is the only one claiming 300 watts. EETimes and InformationWeek are both reporting 200w.

I never commented on the wattage claims and I referred people to an interview with Mr Ruiz...

If you would like some speculation R600 wise from me try this on for size. R600 could possibly support double precision ALU's (which would make the first in the industry to do so at a consumer level). That would explain why a chip as large and hot as R600, supposedly featuring a 512 bit bus is reportedly having trouble keeping up with G80 and why AMD sees a server role for it (You can still use single precision for server applications, but, the opportunities are more limited).

Bear in mind the above is my *speculation* only and not a claim of fact.
