i went ahead and installed fedora core 3 on my file server, and it all went smooth, but i do not have much experience with linux and i am having trouble configuring the ftp service VSFTP. i can get it to run but i cant find out how to configure it. any help is appreciated.

There was an article on this in Linux Journal a while ago, if memory serves. I don't know if it's online but you could look.

http://vsftpd.beasts.org/vsftpd_conf.html - not any specific but you didn't tell what specific goals you pursue and what problems you had. I have it running on my RedHat 9 and'd say it isn't that painful to configure ( even though its paranoid security measures are sometimes nagging - "Oops, refuse to run as root with anonymous write access, quitting" )
