Configuring RAM for Integrated Video

Hi. I just got a new laptop that has the Intel's Extreme Grahics 2 chipset (I know it sucks, but it's an Ultra-portable). It's supposed to have "user configurable" memory settings from 32mb to 64mb of ram from the total system memory, or which I have 256+512mbs of sodimms installed. I just ran some tests, and checks from SiS Sandra 2004, and it turns out that I have 57mb or memory dedicated to the graphics chip. I would like to know how I can adjust it to use the full 64mb or just 32mb, or somewhere in between. Where do you go to manually "configure" the memory setting?

....thanks for the help. 🙂

I BELIEVE, that the IXG dynamicly allocates the memory depending on the amount of RAM installed. For instance, if you hae 256 MB or less the amount is set to 32MB or less. If you have more than 256MB the amount is set to 64MB or less.

You can pre-allocate a certain amount from BIOS; the Windows driver will grab more as it sees fit.

The utility you're using might subtract the primary display surface from the available memory - thus the 57 MBytes you see might be 64 minus what's needed for your display resolution and its video overlay.

Do not change the memory amount to a user adjustable setting. That will degrade your performance in 2D AND 3D by up to 30%. Leave the settings at dynamic, and if you can't, oh well all the better. You can pre-allocate a small amount in the BIOS, but they are not for 3D, they are for other display purposes. The graphics will dynamically allocate the amount needed as it sees fit. You can update the drivers and it will then allocate up to total 96MB of memory.
