Configuring port forwarding on routered router

Our setup might be a bit odd, but here's the reason why. First our network was run off of the Dlink wireless router, but the wireless router would disconnect everyone throughout the day. So, we had a netgear router, which we used instead. But, for all the people that needed wireless access, we connected the dlink to the netgear through the uplink. Everything works fine, but how would i go about configuring port forwarding? I tried to set it up through dlink, but wouldn't netgear's nat still prevent it from accessing the ports it needs?

Turn off the DHCP on the wireless router. It needs to act like an access point with IP's coming from the Dlink router.
