Configuring Norton and Hardware Firewall

Hello folks,

I have been trying to set up Norton Internet Security and my Netgear Hardware Router\Firewall so that I can share files. I have a client application called BitTorrent which I use to upload and download the files. So far, the downloading has not been a problem but I am having problems with the upload.

Here is what I have done:

- Configured port forwarding on the Netgear to match the range of ports that the client application specifies

- Configured port forwarding in Norton similar to what I did for the Netgear. The only difference is that Norton has me identify the appllication and I then configure Norton to allow inbound and outbound communication through the same ports that I configured on the Netgear firewall. There was also an option for remote and local computers which I set to allow.

Like I said, downloading seems to work fine but uploading causes problems. On the sharing client application, I get errors saying the tracker could not locate the uploading PC (or something similar). I am guessing that this is a NAT issue? The client sharing software says something about the client assumes a local IP address when uploading. My guess is that I am sending a local IP address to the tracker. The client sharing software has a place to type in the external IP address which I did and check every time I used the application to make sure that my IP address has not changed.

Anyone have any ideas?
