Configuring IntelPro Wireless 2200 to authenticate to a domain at login..?

Chunkee

Lifer
I just my new xps laptop with the intel wireless and do no know how or if you can enable it to authenticate to my domain during the login to run scripts etc.

Can someone help me out here please, I would greatly appreciate it.

you have to enable/install the "pre-GINA" support or something like that.

It sits between the microsoft login and kernal to allow this stuff to happen.

I don't remember the exact terminology of it as I'm not a desktop guy. But it is along those lines - GINA, pre-logon, etc

never heard of that before, my old laptop, dell wireless had it on their utility...it would go through a litany of findings, the AP, Get IP, Find Domain Controller and authenticate.

the intels do the exact same thing. But you have to enable/install it.

Just install the latest driver and install it with all options enabled. And never use the built-in wireless utility from microsoft.

in the intel utility, under the "tools" menu is a admin tool. If it's missing, reinstall and select that option. First run of admin tool has you select a pin. Make a profile using that to connect to your network prior to DC auth. You can use any method.

thanks so much

however, there is a problem... for some reason installing the intel utility and driver...the Pre-Logon is X'd out with red x and I am unable to change that...has anyone else seen that. This is the latest and greatest from the Dell site...good grief something so simple.

I have re-installed like 3 times...but the Red X is still there only on that one function and I cannot change it...any ideas of hope here

Thanks already for the replies

Go get the proset drivers from intels site, and install the Single Sign on Module.
Damn, i go to heat some pizza and they jump hehe 🙂, yeah it is under admin tools.

Are you going to be dealing with WEP or WPA? I only ask because the latest drivers on Dell's site for the 2200 have severe problems with WPA. I have to use drivers from 2004 to work with my WPA APs.

Oh Good Lord!!

I went into the add and remove and was presented with modify....and thar she was....and now all is working well and am authenticating like a champ.

such a boob i am.

you guys are blue chip..

thanks for the quick responses.

I'm calling shenanigans here...what version of the driver? I've tested them all with WPA you know 😉)

there is nothing wrong with with the drivers. I am using wpa2 from a netgear ap and it worked flawlessly not drops not one.

works great

I've used all of the version 9 drivers with a 2200 in my 600m and my fiancees D610. I could not get a connection to the AP using WPA+TKIP. I have not tested those drivers using WPA2. A quick search shows a ton of people that have had the same issues as I have had. I'm using driver version 8.0.12 and PROSet version 8.0.0 as those are the only versions I've had luck with.

It's going to be a config or AP issue then, because to pass CCX testing (which the 2200 has several times) it MUST function with WPA. I just set it up on a laptop with the latest download from Dell (used my Latitude D810) and a Cisco 1200 series AP. I also didn't do PSK, I did Eap-TLS with WPA (TKIP)

Try it with PSK then. Are you using the PROSet utility instead of WZC?

edit: It's not a config or AP issue as once I downgraded my drivers I didn't have any issues.

yep, sounds like people aren't configuring it properly (client or AP)

he have thousands of 2200 clients and have no trouble.
