Configured a gaming PC. Your input please?

Everything looks good, except maybe the PSU. I would go with Fortron or Seasonic just because I don't trust Thermaltake that much.

My vote is on enermax and check the Hot deals forum. The corsair modular psu is on sale however I know nothing about their psu brand

C2D is an objectively better processor. When you add what you can do with an E6300 or E4300 overclocking wise, it's a no-brainer.

I've heard bad things about Thermaltake PSU's - look for a seasonic or something a little better than what you have there.

What's your budget?

please please please.

go with core 2 duo, also if u want tp spend that much you can prolly get $1500 worth of stuff for $1100 here on the FS/FT forums 😀

Go with C2D combo.
Enermax/OCZ/Seasonic/PC P&C PSU would be better.
Put in an extra $25 or so and get better RAM if you plan to overclock.
I dont have any experience with that monitor.
You can pickup Wireless adapters for much cheaper.

Rig looks fine. C2D combo would be nice but you would have to spend about $40 more on the motherboard (I have trouble recommending anything less than a Gigabyte S3 for a C2D build - and there is nothing 'less' about that board IYKWIM).

You would also have to increase your CPU budget by $50 (E6300 is ~$190). That's close to a $100 upgrade. That is $100, that IMHO, would be better spent on better monitor (I have no experience with Sceptre's products but they seem a little too budget-oriented, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Just a thought - graphic-intensive games will be better served by a GPU/Monitor upgrade than a CPU purchase. Of course, some games will take all the CPU power you can throw at them (like Flight Simulator X) but in most gaming scenarios, you should find it very easy to get GPU-limited.

I would recommend at least a 520w PSU with that system. Having too little power can damage components and if it does run OK now, it won't with upgrades in the future. I recommend a 600w model. Of course I'm partial to the OCZ GameXstream, but the choice is yours.

He doesn`t need even close to 600watts for that thing....

With the exception of video cards, almost all other components have become more power efficient. People with big power supplies are running super high-end video cards or SLI/Crossfire, not single 7950GT's. Even a decent 500W Forton/Enermax/Seasonic is more than enough. Look at my sig: 420W Enermax powering all that.

And I can't stress how important it is to get a Core 2 right now. A Core 2 at around 2.6 GHz will wipe the floor with any AMD system you throw at it. 3+ GHz is just rape. The performance difference far outweighs the price difference. To get a moderate overclock, pair an E6300 with DDR2-800 memory or an E4300 with DDR2-667. Both will yield ~2.8 GHz at least which will absolutely dominate this AMD system you have now.

Looks pretty solid. The only change I would make is getting the Enhance 5150GH 500W PSU at eWiz for $69. It is far superior to the PSU you have selected. Read some reviews and I'm sure you'll agree. Also, while your at eWiz, grab your AC Freezer 7 Pro for $19.05 😉

Other than that, it looks like you have a very nice rig

EDIT BTW, I just got the Cooler Master RC-330 case in the mail today, and it is freakin awesome for the $39.99 - $10 MIR I paid for it. I am very impressed. If your Centurion 532 is anything like it, I'm sure you will be very happy as well.

The Biostar 965 boards had some really great reviews. I almost bought one myself, but opted for the Gigabyte S3 at the last minute for no particular reason, lol. The Biostar had some OC'ing issues at first release, but they have been remedied with recent BIOS updates. I'm not exactley sure how the 965 compares to the 945 board. Is there any particular reason you are looking at the 945 chipset...rather than the $20 or so price difference?

If not, then maybe look at getting a little cheaper RAM and you can bump up your board. There are other brands that perform just as well as the Corsair for less than $120 for 2GB. I've also heard a lot of negative things lately about Corsair, mainly pertaining to the fact that they switched out the D9 chips on most of their models for the cheaper Promo chips.

the x1950xt is the best buy now, as there is no use for any dx10 card now, since no games are out and no drivers for vista and vista itself it still maturing for the next few months. there is no similar nvidia card to the x1950xt btw...

i wouldn't buy biostar, they are a low end, 3rd tier motherboard company, look into asus for top-tier quality.

Biostar has really changed their image with their new line of Mobos. They used to be 3rd tier, but not anymore. Two of the reviews I read on this board stated that they were exrtemely impressed with the quality and performance of the current TForce965 board. I think they have turned a new leaf, but I can't personally verify this, just from what I've read. If they have changed, it is going to take a while to shake the old image.

Yeah conroe system instead of an AMD cpu and I would personally go for an X1950XT. Only like 25-50 more dollars than the 7950GT but way better rperformance.

I'd get an eVGA 7950 and step-up to a 8600. Slower than the x1950, of course, but not getting DX10 at this point seems a waste.

whats the fuss to have c2d over x2? I mean x2 is a bit slower but its cheaper and therefore it doesnt have a worse price/performance ratio. (correct me if I am wrong here).

I mean I see many ppl on these boards having x2 rigs, why is that?

Most of them bought X2 before Conroe became widely available. Ask anyone now and they'll say Conroe over X2, hands down.

I'm planning to sell my X2 and get a Core 2 Duo rig soon.
